Hello everyone,
First time posting here but I've seen some great responses to other posts here, seems like a very well-knit community.

For the past month, my laptop has taken over 2 minutes to connect to various wireless networks. Not always, but most of the time.

This happened after a series of events, I don't know which one could have if at all caused my current problem:
- I had modified some settings on my laptop to fix a previous wireless issue I was having - randomly losing my wireless connection to router networks that would still feed great connections to other laptops. This modification included changing my power management settings to not being able to turn off my USB and wireless chips to save power, along with doing the CMD ipconfig release, renew process.

- I had some ping issues I wanted to fix for online gaming purposes. My modifications included going into regedit.exe to modify the registry keys, the standard TcpAckFrequency and TCPNoDelay edits along with MSMQ.

- I had dropped my laptop while walking down the hallway. Nothing of immediate notice was wrong except for a small scratch on the side.

Anyone have a guess as to how to fix this issue?

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site. If you already have it reinstall it anyhow in case the installed instance is corrupted.

If your laptop is the type that allows easy access to the wireless adapter (through a cover on the laptop's bottom) remove and reinsert it carefully and firmly; also make sure the antenna leads are secure.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista or 7.

Start - All Programs - Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.
