Stopped the Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Zero Configuration and restarted WLAN AutoConfig. Still no wireless signals being detected.

Didn't see any change in the system tray. Trying to work my way through the XP instructions for 7 was a bit difficult, but didn't seem to yield any results.

On a whim, I went to Network and Internet in Control panel and clicked on Intel PROSet/Wireless Tools. From there I was able to do a diagnosis and got the message I've got posted here.

Regardless of whether this is another dead or sparks some new ideas for you, I want to sincerely thank you for your patience, determination, and assistance.

I wonder if something happened and it disabled in bios/setup - very unlikely as i dont think you can see it if thats the case

as the pc starts have a look in bios setup - you should be prompted how to enter on screen for a second or two

do NOT alter anything else - just look through the menus for WLAN - you should be able to exit the bios without saving if you cant find anything

you could try in device manager right click on the wireless adapter and see if you have enable in the menu or disable - if disable i guess you could disable and then re-enable

have a look at the panels on the bottom of the laptop - some should easily unscrew - just see if the adapter happens to be there by chance

When I went into Setup, the only thing I found was in Boot Menu, under System Configuration. I saw LAN, but not WLAN.

I tried to disable and re-enable the wireless adapter. No change there. Though one thing, that I seemed to have overlooked within Device Manager, way back when you first started helping me there were two others there "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" & "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #2". These are not showing up now.

I checked the two easily accessed panels and didn't see anything resembling that.

Restore PC to an Earlier Date & Time

Go Start>>All Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>System Restore

• Click in the radio button Choose a different restore point
• Click Next
• put a tick in Show more restore points
• Pick a Date before this happened
• Click Next

This should restore the PC to that time & date

Following the forum instructions I got the attached. Still no change with wireless.

I'm going to try a restore and see what happens there.

Ok, I apparently goofed up way back. Apparently ZoneAlarm didn't completely uninstall or something because when I tried to restore the system, it said that antivirus was causing interference with it. So I reinstall ZoneAlarm, re-uninstalled it and this time was prompted for a reboot after the uninstall.

Anyways, now it can detect and connect wirelessly. I'm waiting around a little bit to see if the original unresponsive problem arises. If it doesn't, I'll reinstall ZoneAlarm.

why are you using zone alarm ?
is this windows 7 or vista ?

I've been using ZoneAlarm for firewall and antivirus for 4 computers & about 10 years now and has been generally good.
