Hello Everyone,

Recently I have discovered that my current Wireless router may need replaced. While surfing the web, gaming, or just even being connected to the wireless on any of my devices at home I am randomely being disconnected from the network whether it be on my laptop, my xbox, or even my phone. While facing this problem, I have come up with an alternative conlusion until I can afford a new router. I have purchased a 50' ethernet cord to run from our family home office to my bedroom to be able to connect, because it seems when i am connected via ethernet, i am not kicked from the network. Icurrently own a Cisco Valet Plus (M20) Router which is approximately two years old.

My router hgas not shown any of these issues in the past with the same number of devices connected to the router wirelessly. We have even upgraded our connection via our ISP and it has been doing this.


My question is.. What router would you reccomend?
I have found a few that fit my needs.

We have two laptops, two desktops, my phone, xbox 360, network printer, and other various devices connected to this router from time to time. the only wireless devices are my phone, xbox and 2 laptops.


I have been looking into the Belkin line of products,

I have noticed that the belkin products tend to be more pricey for the dual band technology but offer more features that my network may need in the future as i eventually plan on being able to stream music and videos wirelessly throughout our home.

your feedback is appreciated

please let me know what you would reccomend or if what you are using works for you and would be suffice for me..

I have already tried investigating the problem through Xirrus wi-fi inspector and metageek inssider 2.1 software.
I have tried to change from mixed (20/40mhz) to 20mhz, no success.. If there are any more suggestions, i am more than willing to try... but i amafraid i am almost out of options than to purchase a new router.

Dual band is great if you want to do things like stream media and connect to the internet at the same time. You can stream your media on the 5GHz channel while connecting to the internet on the 2.4GHz channel. This is of course only possible if your device you are connecting with supports the 5GHz band. As for the number of devices any router will be able to safely handle the number you are depicting, any slowdown would be an Internet speed problem.


Is your router next to a cordless phone by chance that may be broadcasting on or close to the 2.4 band? If so try moving your router away from the phone and see if this is a problem, I also recommend changing the channel on your router, try channel 1, 6, or 11, it may be everyone in your area is on the same channel.

I have no cordless phones near router.
nothing i can think of to cause any interference.
I am also in the middle of nowhere and the only wifi location and on channel 1

I do not believe it has anything to do with my number of devices because it simply just disconnects. the speed is no slower than usual before or after disconnecting..
