Solved: Windows 7: Intermittent page loading issues
(Hope it's okay to start a new thread. I found similar issues in search, but pretty old threads and nothing helpful to me.)

Within the last week I've had an issue with some web pages not loading. So far this seems to have affected everything EXCEPT Facebook (though on one occasion that was also struggling), and at one point I couldn't even load Google.

The problem goes away on its own after a while, but will randomly start up again. Restarting my PC has, so far, resolved the issue immediately.

System info:

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: AMD E2-3200 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics, AMD64 Family 18 Model 1 Stepping 0
Processor Count: 2
RAM: 3570 Mb
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD6370D Graphics, 512 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 464908 MB, Free - 385325 MB; D: Total - 11928 MB, Free - 1422 MB;
Motherboard: PEGATRON CORPORATION, 2ACF
Antivirus: Lavasoft Ad-Aware, Updated and Enabled

As for my browser, I'm using Firefox 14.0.1 (most recent) with addons. After testing, I don't think the addons are causing any problems.

I've tried using another browser (Chrome) when this happens, and I have the same issue. I've tried checking the connection on another device connected to the internet, and that has no problem.

After research into the problem myself I've tried a couple of suggestions, but they haven't worked. I've tried flushing DNS, and changing Firefox's proxy settings, but I'm still experiencing this issue.

Also tried a virus scan (Ad-Aware Pro) and Malwarebytes. Nothing turned up.

Not sure what to try next. Any advice?

Okay, things are getting worse. Just booted up PC this morning. Opened browser and mail handler, then things started lagging. Couldn't launch Task Manager and had to force shut down from the power button.

Switched back on and had the connection issue described above again, so had to restart.

Seems fine again now, but whatever is going on is really starting to worry me now. I don't know what's happening, and I'm in desperate need of help.

THREE times I've had to reboot today alone to fix this connection issue.

I don't know what to do and this is seriously scaring me. Doesn't anyone have an idea of what's could be causing this issue?

Slipped to second page again? I had the connection issues again last night and tested something out. It seems to only affect browsers. My mail handler checked for new mail without any errors, and Minecraft was able to connect to the server. SERIOUSLY need help here. Doesn't ANYONE have a clue about what could be causing this? I thought this would be a good place to get help, but five days later I'm left feeling completely helpless and ignored!

iwill move to the networking forum

although its possible it maybe a virus/malware issue

how are you connected to the internet - via a cable to a modem/router or via wireless - if wireless please also include an xirrus screen shot - see below

make and model of the PC
What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG etc

would you post the following tests when the internet is working OK, and then repeat ALL the tests when the internet disconnects.
Make sure you also indicate on the reply which tests are for what condition.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy

Now go back to the forum - goto the reply and then right click in the reply box and paste the results.
The results from the notepad should now appear in the forum reply.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ping Tests
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

Start> Run {search bar in Vista/W7}> type CMD to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

Type the following command
Ping {then a space and then add the number that is shown against the item labeled "default gateway" shown in the results from the ipconfig /all}
Post back the results in a reply here
right click in the command prompt box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Ping google.com
Post back the results in a reply here
right click in the command prompt box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Type the following command
Ping 209.183.226.152
Post back the results in a reply here
right click in the command prompt box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste
Quote:
For your information only
these tests will check various stages of the connection, the first ping test, ping default gateway checks to see if you still have a connection to the router.
The next two Ping google.com & Ping 209.183.226.152 tests the connection to internet. google is to test by name and the ping test using a number is checking that a connection exists without DNS.
these tests then confirm if there is a dns issue on the connection.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

http://www.xirrus.com/Products/Wi-Fi-Inspector.aspx
Direct link to the program is here http://info.xirrus.com/Wi-FiInspectorConfirmation.html

{If the above link does not work heres another link http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil.../download.html}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need will need to haveNET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

A user guide is available here http://www.xirrus.com/cdn/pdf/Xirrus...-1-RevB-6.aspx

post a screen shot of the program running.
if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information.

post which SSID name is yours, its located in the list, under network "Adapter Name" (1st column)

To post a screen shot of the active window.
1) hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application (Start> All Programs> Accessories> Paint) and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
OR
2) if you are using Vista/Windows 7 you can use the "snipping tool" which is found in Start> All programs> Accessories> Snipping Tool

To upload the screen shot to the forum, open the full reply window ("Go Advanced" button) and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.
Full details are available here http://library.techguy.org/wiki/TSG_...g_a_Screenshot

Note:
For a reliable (or robust as the Xirrus user guide says) wireless connection you need a signal of about -70 dBm or better. "A desirable signal level for a robust Wi-Fi connection will be green".
note: the signal level is a negative number, so for example -88 is worst and -40 is better

If you are using the Mac OS then use http://www.istumbler.net/ or
if you want to optimise base station position and signal strength / dead spots use
http://www.chimoosoft.com/products/apgrapher/ which has a graph function to monitor signal

Thanks for the response. I'll have to go through this one post at a time since this problem could occur again at any moment and cause me to lose stuff before it's submitted!

The PC is an Hewlett-Packard, model: p6-2002uk

For anti-virus I'm using Lavasoft Ad-Aware Pro. This also has a firewall, which is currently turned off. I also have Windows Firewall, which was on. I've turned this off temporarily to see if the issue persists without the firewall.

The last threat Ad-Aware detected was trojan.win32.jpgiframe and this was picked up a few days after I started having this issue. I did run a scan when this first started happening and found nothing, so I'm not sure if it's related or coincidental. Thought I should mention it.

I've also tried scanning with Malwarebytes, which has turned up nothing.

The connection is wireless.

Lavasoft Ad-Aware Pro.
this maybe the problem and so would be worth removing completely -as a test
http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=28

your also using a fixed IP

DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No

is this how you want the connection set ?

wireless looks OK- but lets see again when disconnected

Maybe part of the issue - but we can move to the virus forum later - that forum is very busy and does take a long while to answer

I've used Ad-Aware for a long time and never had a problem like this before. Any particular reason for believing this could be the cause?

If this is about obtaining an IP address automatically rather than setting my own I don't know what I can do about that. I have to set the IP and DNS addresses myself. It won't connect with automatic settings. Never has done.

I'll check everything again if I have connection issues again.

security suites can often result in issues - and across the board you will find most have caused this issue before here - so quite often removing them completely using a removal tool fixes the issue - and if it does not at least that eliminates a highly probably cause
just read through the network forum and you will see this issues occurs daily

as i say a process of elimination - if it does not resolve the issue you can always put back on

just out of interest can you look at the services

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Status of Services

We would like to see some status information for each of the services listed below.

To do this goto

Start> Run {search bar in Vista/W7}> type CMD to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

Type the following command
SERVICES.MSC

OR
Control Panel>

DHCP Client

Please post back the following status information;
If the service is set to Started or Stopped
and
If the service is set to Automatic or Manual

Okay I've installed Ad-Aware for now. If that does appear to be the cause of the issue, any way to resolve that? I'd like to be able to continue using it if possible.

DHCP Client is Started and Automatic.

i hope you mean uninstall

it maybe that you can simply re-instal and it will be OK then

lets see all the tests when disconnected

not sure why you cannot use a auto ip - but maybe thats the router issue

Oh! Yeah sorry I meant uninstall. xD Yeah it's gone.

Okay I don't know when I'll be able to do that, but I'll run them all again when it happens. Problem is that the PC is connected to the network, but most sites won't load. So far the only one that doesn't seem to be affected is Facebook. I can continue using that, but nothing else will load unless I restart the computer. That fixes it, but only temporarily and I don't know when it will play up again.

It seems to be completely random so far. One day it happened three times. Before that I had no trouble for a couple of days. I'll post results as soon as I can try it.

It also seems to be isolated to this PC, as I can load sites fine on iPod Touch or another device connected to the same network.

I've always had the auto IP problem. My old Windows XP PC was the same. But another device that used to be connected WAS able to connect with automatic settings. It just seems to have a problem with everything else!

I've lost connection to the network several times before, but never had a problem like this. This is completely new to me.

Okay I haven't had any more issues with this since uninstalling Ad-Aware and disabling the firewall. It could be a day or two before I experience any more page loading issues though, if the cause is still there.

If it's alright I'd like to leave this a few more days and see if anything comes up. If it doesn't happen again by then it's probably not going to. I'll try to determine whether or not Ad-Aware was the problem or not. It's looking that way so far.
