Wink Solved: Radio on off
Hi my dad in Australia is having trouble with his wireless. I'm in New Zealand and trying to help him but nothing so far. I told him to ring his provider and they told him to take it to a tech as his Hardware Radio is switched off.
He is running HP 2007 Windows Laptop it is not a year old yet. Can someone please help and if so can it be put in a way that is easy for me & him to follow please.
Thanks Genie

do you have the exact model number ?

the switch can be a physical switch or a combination of the FN key and one of the F keys (will have a symbol of a wireless aerial)
usually on HP theres a blue light to show its on

next would be to a few tests to see if the wireless is working

I would suggest the xirrus program and then it would be useful to see a screen shot - but that will need a pc to copy
does he have any other pcs connected to the wireless at all

can he connect to the router with a cable and get onto the internet

make and exact model of his router

if its still under warranty HP support should be able to talk him through

What does that mean? FWIW I have an HP laptop bought in 2007 that has a slide switch on the front for wireless. And an HP laptop bought in 2010 that has a pressure switch at the top of the keyboard to the right of the volume slider to toggle the wireless. Didn't your dad get a fold-out chart or pamphlet showing the locations of all the switches, ports and special keys?
