Temp Solution
We have this problem with ALL Dell laptops using WinXP SP2. For a tempoary fix, I added software to the Startup group that simple accesses one of the network drives every 15 minutes. After that, no one with these PCs is knocked off the network.

Same Problem
Dear All,

I'm facing this problem since I install XP in my network long time.
When I faced this first time microsoft said wait for SP2,

But SP2 not solving the problem.

this problem dosen't exist with 2000 Pro.

Today I read this article (890413) from MS but the solution is not working.

They said try to delete the drive and restore it again

When this proble happen I shoud restart the machine.

Some one told me try rejoin the domain again,

But no of these solutions work

I'm suprise why MS could'nt solve this a big issue.

This problem nothing to do with HW becuase I faced with diffrent machine (HP, Sony, assembled, ...etc)

Problem with windows XP

XP dropping mapped drives
I had the same problems (Dropped drives, workstations disconnecting, ect.) and could not find a solution anywhere. But I finally did find an answer. Try one of the following or both:

[To turn Autodisconnect off] Type > net config server /autodisconnect:-1
[Try this on the server and ws]

or

Install or repair the DHCP, DNS and WINS on the server. Setting up theses services "correctly" Completely! solved the problem. I did them all at once so I am not sure which one was the trick but I suspect WINS was the key.

I hope this helps, I've been pulling my hair out for some time over this. Alas, no longer!!
