This still doesn't answer JohnWill's question, "Are you sure the wireless is disabled on the
router?"
Just because you turned off the "laptops wireless option "on the laptop doesn't not mean the wireless part of the router is turned off or disabled.
If you don't turn off the
Routers wireless capabilities or at least secure it with WPA then someone else may be using your wireless router to connect to the internet, hench causing a conflict with IP address.
Also you say, "there are no wireless networks in range." You would get this if you have the
Laptops wireless adapter disabled, because it is not able to detect if there is any Networks in range.
