Sorry, didn't realize you could connect to the internet. Missed that part.

Do remove the router software and try with default windows xp wireless connection

Comcast Cable, I actually am running a ethernet cord out of the wireless router to the lap-top now for internet connections... I'm not really sure how to get rid of to router setting because it doesn't look like anything was actually installed on the computer, such as no new programs or nothing on the desktop,

I rebooted the power for both, it seems to be actually working now, but the network is insecure. How can I secure this network......

At least put on WEP, WPA if your hardware supports it. You can change the name to anything you like.

I'm not sure on how to go about doing this...the name of the network is linksys, like i said early I live in a apartment complex and there is already a network under this name. I tried to go under the networks properties but the place for the name is dimmed and I am unable to click on it, I also tried to secure it that way, but its not working, do I need to approach it some other way???

Thanks,
JM

To change name of the linksys router and the security settings you would normally connect to it using your web browser. For the details, see the instructions that came with it.
