AFAIK Media Center version was built on XP Pro, and comes up "xp Pro" if you chech the system. Also, it was working correctly ( VPN connecting to server) over the Internet connection, without it thinking it was locked into a "dial up modem" for about 2 months.

Thanks for the Thought... but There has to be something corrupted I think. I also did not see a way to "uninstall communication" under the Add/Remove Programs, Microsoft OS Extensions. I was going to try to uninstall the "Communication" and re-install.. .but does not appear to be an option under XP Media center.

I am using XP Media Center, DSL wireless broadband network at home. I created a VPN connection to my work place about two months ago "vpn.myworkplace.com" and it worked perfectly.

Sunday decided to do some work from home, but when I tried to connect the VPN, it said the VPN server wasn't available. Monday when I went into work, we checked the VPN server and it was fine. Others were able to VPN into it from the field. When I got home, I re-checked the VPN connection and it still said it couldn't find the server.

I removed the connection, tried to re-create the VPN connection and now all it will do is attempt to dial. It will not give me the option of using the broadband at all. It comes up with a dial-up window and where the phone number would normally go, it says "vpn.myworkplace.com" instead. When I click the icon, it says "no dial tone".

I, too, checked to make sure it was set on "do not dial", but it still wants to dial. Anyone???
