Loss of Networking between two machines
I have five computers on my home network, four wired and one wireless. File and print sharing was fine between all the computers prior to installing McAfee VirusScan Plus on two of them, one in the living room and one in the family room. There is no print sharing issues, just file sharing between two of them.

Despite the install, the other three computers on the network share files fine the good old way through Shared Folders in My Network Places.

These three computers can only access one of the two McAfee VirusScan Plus installed computers but not the other one.

Curiously, the two computers with the McAfee VirusScan Plus installed can access the shared folders in the three non- McAfee VirusScan Plus installed machines just fine.

McAfee Tech Support seems at a loss. They have had me do everything but dance a jig, to no avail. Their tech support appears not to be in the USA. The documentation supplied could use some improvements. There is a serious lack of operational detail and explanation.

Let me give you an update on the problem because the problem seems half solved and to give you a bit more of an idea of my network setup.

I have two computers with the McAfee VirusScan Plus installed. This installs a McAfee Security Center Program that allows you to view the status of as well as configure the installed Antivirus, Firewall, Network Security, Email scanning and Parental control features. Both wired computers are Dell 8000 series. One is in the Family room and the other is in the Living room. The other three computers on the network are not at issue right now because they do not have McAfee VirusScan Plus installed and they can communicate over the network through each other’s Shared Folders in My Network Places without a problem.

The two Dells that have McAfee VirusScan Plus installed also have Symantec's Norton Systemworks Premier installed. The Norton Antivirus component was turned off and its use disabled during the McAfee VirusScan Plus install. After everything we have gone through here, I decided to remove The Norton Antivirus component from the Dell in the family room. It made no difference in trying to open the Shared Folder on the Dell in the living room.

Here's the interesting part. I then went to the Living room Dell and removed the Norton Antivirus component from Systemworks in it. I can now access the Shared Folder on the Dell in the Family room from it, BUT I still cannot access the Shared Folder on the Dell in the Living room from the Dell in the Family room.

I just rechecked that all the Trusted IP addresses are listed besides the range that covers all machines on the network and it still makes no difference.

The first computer I installed the total (all components) McAfee VirusScan Plus software on is the Dell in the family room. This is also the one that cannot access the Shared Folder in My Network Places on the Dell in the Living room.

I then removed the McAfee Virus Scan Plus program totally from the Dell in the living room and was then able to access the Shared Folder on the Dell in the living room from the Dell in the family room as I always could before the install.

I then performed a custom install and reinstalled ONLY the McAfee Anti-virus component that also required McAfee Security Center to be installed back on the Dell in the living room. So now, I only have the Anti-virus installed along with its control center on the Dell in the living room.

I am once again blocked from viewing the contents of the Shared Folder on the living room Dell from the one in the family room. I am back to square one.

I can still access the Shared Folder on the Dell in the Family room from the Dell in the living room, no problem.

There is a firewall component installed on the Dell in the family room but turning it off makes no difference. The firewall component is not installed on the one in the living room.

I'm open to suggestions. Sorry for the long post. I'm at wits end!
