Unhappy Page Cannot Be Displayed - Wireless Connection
You are my LAST hope !

Jan 2007 Bought a Toshiba Satellite Laptop Model P105-S6024( XP Pro, Wireless Adapter )

Feb 2007 I installed Ciscos System VPN to connect remotely to our Hotel's network

April 2007 the VPN connection somehow "Took over" my IE 6.0 because in order to connect to internet wireless I began having to connect to VPN first.

During Past 4 days:
I uninstalled Cisco Sytems VPN because I no longer work there anymore but now I can no longer connect to internet using IE 6.0

Receive the message: PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED

My wireless icon says I am connected but no pages will load for the internet

I can connect to internet via AOL perfectly using wireless. I cannot send email thru MS Outlook 2003... but can receive it on a wireless network

I can connect to internet using the DSL cable . I upgraded to IE 7.0 thinking this would solve problem..... it didn't. FINALLY was able to uninstall IE 7.0 ( nightmare experience ) and go back to IE 6.0 but still same error message.

At home I have VERIZON and the wireless modem is Westell Versalink Model 327W

I went to Microsoft support site and downloaded EVERYTHING they suggested and still no wireless connection. The following are the things I can remember trying ( I dont remeber them all... that's why I am here )!!

1. Reset the WINSOCK
2. Reset TCP/IP stack to defaults
3. ipconfig /all, ipconfig /renew
4. Ping sites like yahoo, google, abc and I get Packets 4 sent and 4 Received
5. When I did: telnet google.com or yahoo.com I get error Could not open connection to the host. Connection failed.
6. I have renamed the HOST, winsock, ws2_32 and winsock32 to extensions with "old"
7.Installed Microsft Tool : WinsockXPFix and SP2ConnectivityFix
8. System Restore to date pre-install of VPN
9. Installed Spyware Terminator and found no virus
10. Installed Firefox
11. Unplugged power cord from Router, reset Router
12. Contacted Toshiba and they were useless, said it was my router and I told them that I can't connect at work, home or other places with wireless internet, but other people can be in same office with me and they can connect without issues!!

You are my LAST hope or all I have left to do is Pray, Cry and now I am getting VERY depressed!!

I had read 20 or so of the threads here and tried everything and I hopefully have answered the "basic" questions you asked the others.

This is a problem for JohnWill to tackle. He was here all day. He is no longer here. I beleive he will be back early tomorrow morning eastern time. You can wait a few minutes. If nothing happens, check back in couple of hours, if not, come back tommorow.

I do not want you to keep wiating and then get disappointed.

I know a lot of great talent visit this site regularly. In addition, there are a few very powerfull moderators.
I do not know about your problems, but we have to wait and see. This is the weekend, normally things slow down a little bit around weekend. So I think you have a few days of checking to see what kind of replies you get.

Good luck to you

First, since ipv6 sometimes causes trouble and you don't need it, uninstall it:

Start - Run - ipv6 uninstall - OK
---------------

Second, since you have XP SP2, do this stack repair:

Winsock fix

(From a JohnWill post)

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

For these commands, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

----------------------------

Third check the Toshiba web site and make sure you have the latest driver for your Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG adapter.
---------------------

Fourth please post another ipconfig /all showing the wireless connection again. And since you were getting what appeared to be a good IP configuration, try the following tests.

To open a Command Window: Start - Run cmd (command in 98SE) - OK

To determine a computer's IP address and router's IP address: open a Command Window and type
ipconfig /all

The "Gateway" is the router's IP address.

Now for some troubleshooting. Following is how to use ping to test for communication with your router, the internet, and the internet with symbolic name.

1. On the PC open a Command window and type
ping IProuter (where IProuter is the IP address of the router)

Do you get Replies, or do you get packets lost?

IF you got replies,
2. ping 66.94.234.13 (or any other internet address you know)

Do you get Replies, or do you get packets lost?

If you got replies,
3. ping www.yahoo.com (or any other internet name)

Do you get Replies, or do you get packets lost?

Unhappy Page Cannot Be Displayed - Wireless Connection
Okay, I followed each step in detail and this is the update:

1. I went to Toshiba and updated driver
2. Still get error that Page Cannot Be Displayed
3. Can connect to inter via AOL like before
4. Each site I was able to Ping from the CMD window still could not connect to internet with IE or Firefox
5. I could PING some site but not others

I forgot to mention that at home I have two cordless phones that are plugged into those "Things" they give you with the Modem from VERIZON. There are regular phones at work though.

Not hopeless, but somebody other than me has to look at the HiJackThis log, and I think that with all the data you've supplied we need to get a summary description of what's working and what's not.

But first, a couple questions. What does "I can connect to internet via AOL perfectly using wireless" mean? How is that different than the wireless connections that do not give you working browsers?

And what does "I can connect to internet using the DSL cable" mean? You can use your browser when connected via ethernet to the DSL modem? When connected via ethernet cable to the router? Something else?

From your ping tests, you have internet access and working DNS through the router. This is one of the wireless connections for which your browser does not work, right?

Unhappy Page Cannot Be Displayed - Wireless Connection
Wireless Connection will only give me connection to America On Line by double clicking their icon ( that is how I access the internet now )... but I cannot get it to respond when I "ping" aol.com .

All the other websites I could "Ping" will not connect using Internet Exxplorer or Firefox, instead I have to access them thru AOL once I am online.

When I connected to the DSL using the ethernet cable/cord, "I Thought" I was able to connect to AOL, but I realize now after disabling my wireless adapter, that I wasnt connecting with the DSL... my wireless was connecting me. Because I get the same message with the etherney cable/cord: Page Cannot Be Displayed.

Sounds like you're in AOL's clutches. I have no idea how to recover from that unless you can remove any and all AOL stuff you are running.

Sad to say, I share Terry's view. I avoid AOL like the plague, and my normal RX for AOL issues it to uninstall everything AOL.

I removed AOL completely and still cannot connect to internet... get same error: Page cannot be displayed

Steps After I removed AOL:
ipconfig /all
netsh int ip reset reset.log
netsh winsock reset catalog

Restart the PC (I failed to type that in my previous post; sorry).

You can still ping web sites by IP address and by name, right? With browser, can you get to one of those sites by IP address?
