Hi joeyDneedshelp,

I can understand that we all love our computers and before doing anything which we havent done we think atleast hundred times.....
Let me make myself clear why i have asked u to all this...

There are two types of DSL connections which are commonly used...PPPoE and DHCP...
In case of PPPoE connection we need a username and password so that the ISP can authenticate u as a legal customer.... In case of DHCP connection username and password is not required so the ISP use a strict MAC binding technology to prevent the user from getting more that one WAN IP address(I am explaining in a very language not being so techie so that u can easily understand it.) Now here what i have felt is that u have a dhcp connection so what happens is that when u connect a computer to ur modem the MAC address of that computer's NIC gets bound to the ISP Router. Now the other computer will not connect till the time u'll release that Mac Address from the ISP router so that it can give a new IP to different computer...

So try it and lemme know if that works...
Good Luck...

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

For these commands, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

What i can see is your computer is getting an IP address which your ISP is providing straight away so it means that u r using a bridged modem.
What i have figured out is that u have a DHCP connection...
Lemme explain this .... In this case u dont use a username and password to connect to the internet.....the ISP will keep a track of the equipment that u r using....(in this case the mac address of the LAN card is bound to the network which we need to release before using it on a different computer.)
If this is the case try this.....

Connect the modem to the new computer on which its working fine....
Do the ipconfig again......if u get the same results or any IP Address which starts with 7...
try this
START>>RUN>>CMD
In the DOS windo type....

ipconfig /release and then hit enter

now u shud see IP Address 0.0.0.0

Without wasting any time switch off the modem and connectit to the old computer.

switch on the modem.
On the old computer go to
START>>RUN >>CMD

in the DOS window Type ipconfig /release
Hit enter and the try the following command..
ipconfig /renew
Hit enter
if u r lucky u'll get an IPADDRESS starting with 7...

if this will be the case u'll be able to go online....

*** Plz lemme know if this works for u...
** Powercycling is simpling switching OFF and ON...

Comcast never worried about what I connected to my cable modem, and Verizon FiOS doesn't either.

Huh, I just read the thread again. Johny cage, he has a cable internet connection. He does not have DSL and does not need to enter any PPPoE configurations into his modem. Please take a better look at the fact supplied before offering advice that my really confuse this guy.

John How do you like the FiOS? Man I cant wait till the bring it down here!!! They are deplying it in the northern part of the county!!

15mbit/2mbit. I've never seen any degradation in the speeds so far, except when a tree fell on the lines up the street about a month ago.

You posted another thread with a load of malware, and I moved that to the Security forum. Let's solve all those issues before we fool around with anything else.

Here's the thread in Security: http://forums.techguy.org/security/5...etworking.html
