aarhus2004,

I did find some post on the "Filter Internet NAT Redirection" and it sounds like something I don't need to change. Or from what I could understand that is how it seem to me.

I never did the reset from the router software so no sure just what happens. But I just went to see and clicked yes to "restore factory default" and got this warning below.
Then I looked and password, Port 113 from the forwarding and "Filter IDENT(port 113):" were all losted and Admin was the password again. I firmware was the same so it did not change. Just the setting changed that you make.

Really even if it did turn back the firmware it's easy to upgrade it again but it does not turn back the firmware.

I remember somewhat post when the 1.45.11 update came out and we was all going nuts over port 113 not being stealth. That some had troubles and emailed them about it and they were give by email or a link a firmware that turned things back to the factory firmware that came with the router or the firmware version they had before getting the one that screwed things up. But they had to do this my email or maybe tru the site support or something.

Funny how they added "Filter IDENT(port 113): on the very same firmware update that the stealth was done away with but we was all doing what other sites said and blocking it from the forwarding and not and not the "Filter IDENT(port 113):"

So try it.

hewee, So you never changed your NAT - left it at Disable. It cannot be changed back on mine and I have read that this is the case - so for the moment I am stuck with it.

And I just tried it and can't get the warning window as in your screenshot. Since you can, I am confirmed in my thinking that my reset is broken.

Yes I quess it is, hewee. I do have the firmware D/Lds stored.

So maybe that's why they brought out 1.46.2

It is funny, hewee, and I am going to continue using the Forwarding stealth and ignore the Filter IDENT(port113)

I can't understand Routers in any case. When I read the theory I get a headache

Regards.

Ben.

No I never changed it and don't think I will. You think that you should be able to change that setting back and doing the reset from there software "restore factory default" would do just that also along with any other changes you made.

That is odd because I checked yes and clicked Apply and then the warning box came up and after I said OK it reset everything.

Yes I keep what I download also.

That and other reasons I guess.

That should be OK and we both have used the Forwarding stealth for years and know it works. But Filter IDENT(port113) does the same thing I think so I have both now and I bet only one really works. That is what it see's first. But I don't understand Routers any better then you do.

Arrow An update on settings.
Hello,

For those of us who have difficulty in comprehending the functions of a router and because using the default settings of any software seems preferable to any tinkering we may do, I thought an update to this thread might be worthwhile.

Relying, as I do, on the advice of technically qualified folk and also recognising that even they do not necessarily agree on the more esoteric principals of anything, I have taken another step in modifying my Linksys BEFSR11 router settings.

In this case I was surprised by the thinking of Jack Gulley whose site on the value and virtue of Windows Millennium, here, was the prompt for the thread I began in TSG, here.

I quote from his site, from the very foot of his site, and something which may have been added or, more likely, something which I ignored when first confronted with the depth and seeming significance of all else he had to say:

Quote:
Special note: Cisco released firmware updates for their Linksys BEFSR11, BEFSR41, BEFSR81, & BEFSRU31 routers (6/24/2004) to fix a security problem known as the DHCP Server and BOOTP Packet Vulnerability, and minor fixes 8/3/2004. Adds the "adaptive IDENT" for port 113 feature (found in the ZoneAlarm Firewall) as a new (disabled by default) Filter IDENT(port 113): option (stealth mode), that should be manually enabled after updating. See: Linksys Support. Verify that "Block WAN Request:" and "Filter IDENT(port113):" are Enabled, and that "Multicast Pass Through:", "IPSec Pass Through:", "PPTP Pass Through:", "Remote Management:" and "Remote Upgrade:" are all Disabled
Here are those setting changes:

I have attached a GIF of the same image just in case!

The default settings, with the exception of the NAT, are those reflected in my post above and here.

My ISP took a short time to adapt to the new settings which fact pleased me, for it gave me the impression that something had been achieved!

I detect no degradation of system performance.

Regards,

Ben.

Harry, you are more than welcome because I do value your support, especially in the areas of this router and the Mozilla Firefox browser.

Best wishes.

Ben.

Thanks but that does not mean I know everything and am always learning. Like you I alway took the router default setting as being right and there was no need to do anything and I keep the default setting for years.
Then after the one firmware upgrade there was the port 113 thing so I had to deal with it.
