Can't renew IP addr from wireless LAN
Couldn't find a similar problem so I'm posting anew.
Have wireless LAN with two PCs using a Linksys BEFW11S4 router, a cable modem, and a Belkin F5D7050 wireless adapter.
Both PC's working fine. I shut down one PC because of a nearby thunderstorm. Powered it back up but could not get a good IP address from the router/modem. Using the Belkin wireless USB utility I tried numerous re-connects and refreshes to no avail. This utility indicates I'm connected to my wireless network, but the IP address is bogus, 168.xxx.yyy.zzz. The only way I know to correct this problem is to reset both the cable modem and router. While this was happening, the other PC, a laptop, was happily connected to LAN and internet. Appreciate some help in understanding why the one PC could not et connected to internet while the other worked fine.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2 & Vista.

For XP, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

For Vista, Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.
