IP Tracking

Hello,

So I have an ip tracker on my MySpace page (trackspace.net). This service links the myspace user the the ip (provided they are registered with trackspace). When I was at work today, I noticed that someone logged into my trackspace account was perusing my page and my home ip was showing up. Is this only explanation for this the fact that someone was at my computer at home?

I should say, I do not have a wireless router. My computer is connected to a Comcast cable modem. Also, I did not leave my computer on when I left my house today.

Thanks for any help you might have.

You could have been hacked especially is there is no router in place. Connecting a computer directly to a cable modem is very dangerous.

And I could be hacked even if my computer was turned off? Could someone who knew me who knew how to hack reach my computer specifically? That is where I am confused.

You do not know when the hacking occured, if at all. How do youknow this is your IP Address. DHCP addresses are usually renewed every 24 hours.

I know it was my ip because all the ip hits for today were attached to my trackspace account .. that is why I was alarmed when I saw hits from that ip in the afternoon when I wasn't there.

Do the files show a time stamp? The only way to tell is to get the current IP Address from your machine and compare.

In the mean time, invest in a router.

Yes, they show a time stamp and the time stamps in the afternoon match the ip from when I got home.

Thanks for your help.

The IP is the modem so if it remains on, someone could plug another machine into it or either the time stamps from MySPace are delayed.
Again, get a router and get protected.
