Wireless Network Connection balloon keeps popping up!
I'm hoping someone here can help with a problem I'm having with my wireless network connection. Here's the background. I recently reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled XP on my HP Pavilion ZE4500 laptop. I have a Microsoft wireless B router that I've had for a couple of years now. I set up my wireless connection and everything after I reformatted my hard drive, and I can access the internet using my wireless card, but about every 5 minutes a balloon pops up saying "One or more wireless networks are available". I click the balloon and re-connect to mine. Then about five minutes later, it does it again. And it just goes on and on like that. I think I had this problem several years ago when I first got this laptop, but I can't remember what I did to fix it. It seems like I disabled the "Wireless Zero Configuration" service in Administrative Tools, and when I try that, the balloon stops popping up..... but anytime I restart my computer or it goes into standby and I restart it, it won't find any wireless networks and I have to go turn "Wireless Zero Configuration" back on, connect to my network, then turn it back off to keep the balloons from popping up! Help!

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

What country are you located in.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make and model of your computer.
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.




On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands:

PING 216.109.112.135

PING yahoo.com

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL


Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Use a different wireless utility; the one that comes with your wireless adapter or maybe you have an HP WLAN.
