Exclamation ICS for xbox 360 will not work...
Hey I am trying to use windows internet connection sharing to connect my xbox 360 to xbox live as my computer is right beside my xbox and it would be much less expensive then to buy a wireless adapter. I have watched and read up on how to do this and have followed all the steps, my computer will not allow me to do it. For starters I cannot even share my connection it keeps giving this error message : "Internet connection sharing cannot be enabled. A LAN connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic IP addressing". Or it will give me some error about IP address conflict. My other problem is that when I bridge my wireless connection with my network adapter I lose the connection to the internet on my computer.. I have no idea what is going on any help would be appreciated. I have a linksys wireless PCI card and a D-link wireless "n" router if that information helps at all. If you guys need any other info to help solve my issue just let me know I can probably find it.

Try losing ICS and bridging the connection from your router connection and the XBOX. It'll allow a logical direct connection from the XBOX to the router and eliminate the NAT layer of ICS.

Perhaps if you told us something about the network?

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

What country are you located in.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
What is the expected Upstream/Downstream speed for your ISP Connection?
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make and model of your computer.
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?

If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands:

PING 216.109.112.135

PING yahoo.com

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I have no idea how to bridge my wireless connection and the Xbox directly because my computer does not know it is connected to the xbox by an ethernet cable.

Im located in Canada and my ISP is Shaw Cable.

Make of the modem is a Motorola, but I couldn't find any model number on it.
Make of the wireless router is a D-Link DIR-655
Make of Wireless PCI card is a Linksys WMP-11CA

Connection from computer to network is wireless. I believe it is WEP encrypted. My computer is a Cicero.. don't know the model sorry. It uses Windows XP home with Service Pack 2. I have Internet Explorer, Firefox and Apple Safari browsers installed but I mainly use Firefox. As for my problems I already described them as well as I can and I did give exact error messages in quotations in my previous post. All my computers are working fine on the network and Im not about to move my xbox all around my house to each different computer to see if it works differently.

Here is all the information from the computer I am trying to use to connect my XBox to the internet with:

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

Well, I think the first thing to solve is why the physical connection isn't recognized. Are you using a crossover cable? Have you tried a different cable?

I am using the patch cable provided by Microsoft that came with the xbox when I bought it. Is the computer supposed to recognize that the xbox is connected by the ethernet cable...?

The cable that came with the XBOX is NOT the correct cable for a connection to another machine using ICS, you need an Ethernet crossover cable. That's the first issue to solve.
