Active Directory Password Reset
Hi all,
I'm not sure if in the right place for this, i'm part of a large network infrastructure and we use Active Directory to manage our users. I am looking to create a web-based tool where users can go and reset their own network signon passwords.

Does anyone here use this function?
Keep in mind I am not a programmer or web design specialist, I was given this as a research project from my boss to work on.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but as long as they are configured to allow them to change the password in AD Users and Computers, once they log into the domain, hit CTRL+ALT+DEL, click Change Password, and that should be it.

Correct. Once they log onto the domain, doing an CTRL+ALT+DELETE will bring up some options, change password is one of them.

The only other time that I have seen something web-based is if I am connecting to my citrix server or my email server (OWA) and my password is expiring.

There are restrictions that can be in place on the domain to disable the change password option on a CTRL+ALT+DEL . Also there is a check box under the user account properties of Active Directory Users & Computers that will allow each user to change the password or not be able to change the password.
Its under the account tab of the user properties window ( User can not change password)

If you are talking about Password Self Service Management there are plenty of packages out there that do this already.

There was a free product that I was going to try about 5 years ago when I worked for the school district but I can't remember off hand what it was called.

yes, we realize that the reset password option is available in the CTRL-ALT-DEL dialog box. This would be for when a user forgets their password and can't logon to their account, so they could go on another computer or logon to a generic signon and access a web page where they can reset their password.
