I tried to send it off but because the internet isnt working I couldnt.

What's interesting is that now it's saying that a network cable is unplugged, rather than there just not being any activity, ive checked and everything is plugged in fine though.

Here's my hijack log:

try this next

go to start/connect to/show all connections

right click your connection & select enable if it says disabled

if it says connected, select disable & then enable

see what that does

Yeah, that doesnt work.

I also tried using a different ethernet cable, but still nothing (it just went back to saying no connectivity).

we have cleaned out the malware & thus is sounding like a hardware fault now

I suspect that the actual nic card has gone wrong

it does happen

I will move this back to networking & let the guys there carry on with it

lets just check something and see what error messages have been logged

this is an easy way for me to see those and others

Download OTScanIt.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Open the OTScanit folder and double-click on OTScanit.exe to start the program.
  • If your Real protection or Antivirus intervenes with OTScanIt, allow it to run.
  • In the Processes group click Non-Microsoft
  • In the Services group click Non-Microsoft
  • In the [b]Drivers[b] group click Non-Microsoft
  • In the Registry group click ALL
  • In the File String Search group select ALL
  • In the Rootkit Search group select YESL
  • In the Files Created Within group click 30 days Make sure Non-Microsoft only is CHECKED
  • In the Files Modified Within group select 30 days Make sure Non-Microsoft only is CHECKED
and then make sure include unicode names is checked
in the Additional scans sections please press select ALL and check non-microsoft only
  • Now on the toolbar at the top select "Scan all users" then click the Run Scan button
  • The program will be scanning huge amounts of data so depending on your system it could take a long time to complete. Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Save that notepad file
Use the Reply button and attach the notepad file here. I will review it when it comes in.

It will be much too big to copy & paste here

if it is too large to attach and sometimes it is depending on numbers of error messages & newly created files then zip it first & upload the zip file

EDIT: first do the stack repair (post #8) again.

Please briefly summarize the current situation/problem, and show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Yep it's working again, I think that second stack repair fixed it.

Shall I mark the threat as Solved or do you need anymore info?

OTscan it is showing a few disc errors in teh event viewer section

I would suggest a scandisc to see if there are any damaged sectors etc
as you have solved the original problem lets clear up after the malware removal

*Follow these steps to uninstall Combofix and tools used in the removal of malware*
* Click *START* then *RUN*
* Now type *Combofix /u* in the runbox and click *OK*. Note the *space* between the *X* and the *U*, it needs to be there.

Then on otscanit press cleanup on the top bar & follow prompts
then
Turn off system restore by following instructions here
for XP http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/index.php?page=8
or for Vista http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...torial143.html

That will purge the restore folder and clear any malware that has been put in there. Then reboot & then re-enable system restore & create a new restore point. Now Empty Recycle bin on desktop

go here http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/index.php?page=3 for info on how to tighten your security settings and how to help prevent future attacks.

and scan here http://secunia.com/software_inspector/ for out of date & vulnerable common applications on your computer

Then pay an urgent visit to windows update & make sure you are fully updated, that will help to plug the security holes that let these pests on in the first place
