Packets are send. Packets arent received.Making me @_@
As the title says, its quite self explanatory- i can connect to the internet fine - all the settings have been untouched. The status is connected and there isnt anyapparent hardware failure (according to windows). Its just, packets are being sent - but they are not being received. Ive reset my routerseveral times, restarted several times and i can only think of a reformat in case of an OS issue. I would like to leave this as a last resort however. I have suspicions that it may be a hardware problem. This is due to the fact thqt the previous day, before i shut down my computer, lag caused a violent interaction with my foot. it wasnt superman force or anything, just more than a tap so i highlydoubt that was the problem.

Thanks in advance,

Greetz,
Jsung

im almost a little confused here.
You are connected to the internet fine?
but you can't recieve packets?

So what your saying is that in your connections settings box although it looks like its connected, nothing is being recieved?
I.e. you are not able to view internet pages etc since nothing seems to be comming back to your machine once connected.? yes?

ok first question!!!!!!!!!!!!!
are you connecting via wireless or wired to your router?

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

What country are you located in.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
What is the expected Upstream/Downstream speed for your ISP Connection?
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make and model of your computer.
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?

If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands:

PING 216.109.112.135

PING yahoo.com

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

to neil

yes, that is what is happening - sorry if i didnt supply sufficient information. (Note, it isnot just internet pages. but rather everything)
i am connecting via wireless

to John

my PCI-E internet card is the Asus 802.11g
router says simply "D Link adsl Router"
modem is... "D link Airplus G+ wireless access point"

I am in New Zealand
I am using Telecom
the upstream downstream...hmm, this is hard to explain - it is supposedly maximumg upload and download, however the results are making this skeptical.

wireless connection - no encryption ( i cant get my head around encrypting)
my computer is a custom build (specs in my profile)
currently XP-home - soon to be Visa- Ultimate
Patch level - im not sure about this- but i am up to date with all ut the very latest update (released a couple days ago) due to not being able to download.
internet browser is Maxthon2 - IE7, FireFox, Opera and a custom browser that was built, all do not work.

No error messages. Everything looks normal - however the small network icon that usually turns blue when it is sending and receiving packets, remains grey/black/blank. in the status - the packets are shown as not being received.

I cannot do a wired connection with the lan cable as i have a wireless internet adapter/card.

another computer (laptop), on the same network, is working normally.

You got replies to your ping, so you are receiving packets and do have internet access. Would be good now to see the requested ping yahoo.com. That is to determine whether DNS is working.

You don't need ipv6, and it sometimes causes strange problems, so ...

Start - Run - ipv6 uninstall - OK

and then try the ping yahoo.com

Jsung, I removed the code tags, makes it harder to read your configuration.

thanks john,
and also thanks to terry - i will edit this when i get home and i will try the ipv6 removal. (i dont even know what ipv6 is and i didnt even know i had it)

EDIT:
i tried to ipv6 uninstall. it said "uninstalling fora while" and then it disappeared, i wasnt sure if it had uninstalled so i tried that command in the cmd window and it appeared as "ipv6 is not installed" or something along those lines so i will be assuming that it was uninstalled. i then tried the PING yahoo.com test and a message saying;

"Ping request could not find host yahoo.com. Please check the name and try again."

I have tried a ping test on google.com/www.google.com/www.yahoo.com also and all failed.

DNS is failing for some reason. Try the OpenDNS servers by following the directions for your operating system here: https://www.opendns.com/start
