Need A Good Router, Thanks.
hi, my current router keeps disconnecting my internet - mainly when i download on max speed (not a modem problem, its the router) from torrents, I have 5mb dl \ 512kb upload adsl. can someone recommend me a good router (without wireless support) for about 100-140 usd?
The router need to support at least 4 computer, 6,7 would be even better. I also need that the router will supper ADSL and Cables.

Thanks, Haim.

What is the make and model of your current router? Do you have to have an ADSL modem built in? That limits your choices.

That's a pretty old model and not very powerful. For Torrents, you need a router that can handle a large number of simultaneous connections.

Use the Maximum Simultaneous Connections Benchmark in the SmallNetBuilder Router Charts. The higher the # the better, but you'll probably be ok with over 100 simultaneous connections.

The newer D-Link routers are actually among the top routers in handling simultaneous connections.

Hi,

Thanks for your help, what is the other 3 benchmarks?

From the "Maximum Simultaneous Connections Benchmark " I got that the best routers with no wireless is: Netgear ProSafe Dual WAN Gigabit Firewall (FVS336G), Netgear ProSafe VPN Firewall 200 (FVX538 v2) & Netgear ProSafe Gigabit VPN Firewall 25 (FVS124G)

I selected "No WLAN " to get the router with no wireless.. (Correct me if I'm worng).

These routers are not in the top in the other Benchmarks, is that OK?

You don't need to select wired routers. There are many wireless routers that are less expensive than the ones you noted and as good. Just shut off the wireless.

The other 3 benchmarks are speed related. Each one is explained on its page. As long as the router you are considering is at least as fast as your up and downlink speeds you will be fine.

Routers with speeds faster than 5 Mbps WAN to LAN (download) are what you want.

I second that. I had to finally toss my DI-604 in the trash, after two weeks of hell and attitude it gave me. It would lose its settings at least once a week. Even with latest firmware update.
Gotta give it some love though, it lasted almost four years.

I wouldn't put Edimax on the top of my shopping list. Truthfully, I've had pretty good luck with some of the ZyXEL stuff, which is also not at the top of most folks lists.

Edimax products aren't usually at the top of my list either. But I have found that they can have some unique features, such as upstream AND downstream QoS.

Here's a review on the BR-6504n.

Again, with a 5 Mbps download requirement there are plenty of products to choose from.

That particular Edimax looks like a pretty good unit, and I do like the better QoS capability, that's getting more and more important nowadays.

It a big list on your site, could you give me one or two routers from that list that you would buy? don't forget the "Maximum Simultaneous Connections" that I need.

Thanks.
