zx10guy, im simply stating some of the issues here... I've installed hundreds of high-end intel based servers (and HP, acer, dell, you name it) over the years but lately there's been more and more stupid little issues with the intels. It seems the more they stay on the bleeding edge of technology, the more problems we have. I'm not the only one that's had this happen to them either...

I'm not looking for a lesson in raids nor am I looking for a debate in someone else's post, just stating my experience with them.

I'm not looking for a debate nor trying to lecture you. You gave some observations. I commented on them which since you've left your inputs on a thread which wasn't started by you but by an OP who is looking for information...would also benefit the OP with another view point. Your last post stated you had no idea and in your words "Well, if you can figure it out, let me know" don't know why the testiness directed towards me. I gave you my input to your situation which you seemed to ask for but seems you don't.

If it's any consolation, I've also built many high end servers in my time too along with working with SANs and high end supercomputers (although I never had to fully admin them.) So I also have experience in this area for whatever that's worth.

Maybe we should save the debate for another thread and help this poor guy with his issue.

I hasten to point out, they're talking about a handful of machines accessing the server, so spend $10,000 on the server seems to be massive overkill here. Sorry, but I have to stand by my original position, RAID is probably not necessary, or perhaps even desirable here. I'd MUCH rather have good backups than a RAID array of any flavor. I doubt they have a dedicated IT staff to keep things all humming on this network.
