Why am i losing some of my speed from modem to computer
when i log into my modem it says i am getting a full 7 meg connection (my isp confirms this) but when i run a speed test on my computer i get about 4 megs,i bypassed my wireless router, my isp replaced my modem still same problem, i uninstalled my firewalls and put on my isp recommended one, i tried connecting it to my 2nd computer and i still got the same results.
any other ideas
?

You are using DSL I assume. The truth about DSL is that the farther you are away from the telephone exchange the lower you real connection speed. 3 megs seems like a large drop though. You will never get the actual speed that the isp says you get. What isp do you use? When you run the speedtest are you connect using ethernet?

Edit--Do you have any programs that could be hogging bandwidth like P2P or anything else on your network?

its broadband through qwest and i know im not suppose to get a full connection but i am(i log into my modem and it reads a full 7168kbps also my isp runs tests going from them to my modem and they report a full 7 megs as well) its not the connection problem its something to do with the modem or computer the modem is brand new so that seems unlikely unless there is a setting problem or something my internet provider is qwest

make sure you are using recommended cabling etc....
i know of a person who was complaining of slow speed which was rectified by using quality cables and uisng CAT5 instead of usb to connect to the modem...

i hope this helps you some!

What kind of computer, modem, router are you using. Please be specific with model numbers on the modem/router.

hmm... you might have some spyware. Thats about all i can think of. If you have connected the computer to the modem and still get that bad of a loss, its got to be software or bad settings in the router.

Yes, thats why I think it could be settings or false advertising.

Your processor should have nothing to do with your internet speed. Right click on My Computer and go to properties. It will be in the box that comes up.
