Some unclear stuff bout downloading and surfing speeds
Ok.Here is a simple question.I want to know when downloading the speed is measured in b/s, kb/s, mb/s (bytes/second) and when surfing the net (like sites or stuff) the speed is measured in bps, kbps (bites per second)?! One more thing. I have a 4016 kbps internet. But when downloading the speed is like 1200 to 5000 kb/s. What is going on?Is it me or something is not right. My download agent is Flashget and i've just downloaded a file and the speed was:Average Speed 924.73 KB/s. But my connection is 4016 kbps = 500 kb/s????One more thing. When surfing the speed is not so big...the sites don't open so quickly but they should because 4016 kbps is not slow speed. So... can someone explain to me (with most simple words) what is going on?

Not without real data. How are you coming up with the speed? How about a couple of tests?

Try running a speed test from one of these sites and posting the results here.

Speakeasy Speed Test

DSLReports Speed Test

Next, let's see a line quality test.

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

Upload Speed: 181 kbps (22.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

These are the results form internet speed test with a server in my country:

Download Speed: 6622 kbps (827.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 3047 kbps (380.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Now i'm waiting for the last test - the line test and i'll post it.

Well, any losses on the DSL line quality are bad. Of course, if you posted the link as I requested, I could have a better idea...

Well...that was all it was shown.Nothing else. So...what does that mean? What should be my download, upload and browsing speed? And what is the reality?

Well, there is a whole page of data for the line quality tests, so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree that it was "all that was shown".

If you don't want to post the stuff I ask for, I guess I'll pass on this one. I don't need my input filtered by someone's interpretation of what is happening.

No no no...really that is all!I'm not hiding anything. Why do i have to hide something?I'm writing here so i could understand what is happening. It's in my interest to say what is happening here. Not lying or something!I'll do the test again if i have to..but i'm NOT a liar.I wanted to clear these things because i'm going to the office of the provider to ask what is happening. And i don't want to end with "Amm Sir there is no problem here. The problem is in your computer". And if they say this i want to tell them some facts. That is it.Do You think i would lie here for the information i got from this site? No!!!!And now i feel insulted in a way....

You feel insulted?

You came for help, we try to help. When you refuse to provide simple information that is readily available, what are we to think? If you really want to understand what's happening, the first step is for us to understand what is happening so we have a chance of explaining it. Life is too short for me to just post a series of guesses about possible scenarios. My way of addressing this kind of issue is to look at all the raw data and then analyze the issue. I'm not asking for information for no reason, and one or two sentence "summary's" of a whole screen of graphical data doesn't really do it justice.

I'm not trying to insult you, I'm trying to help you if you'll let me.

Here is what you want...i think!Yes i agree but don't think immediately that I'm hiding something! As i said i want help for this from the people in this forum.I don't know all the things in this world...so i've noticed the more button (that is not so big so i can see it) later. So i guess i am wrong bout the given data...but i think that you called me a liar..!Now that you know what happened, am i a liar?

Please point out where I called you a liar. FWIW, you posted the wrong link, you should re-read the instructions and follow them exactly.

I think I'll let someone else jump in here, we obviously have a personality clash, and I wouldn't want to insult you further.

If you look at that line quality test, you clearly have ISP issues. The first stop is to call them and get that worked out.
