Hi,

I have 2 TRIPP LITE UPS - model SU1000 XL.

How do I set them so that if the battery goes below a certain percent the servers will automatically shut down.

Is their some software that one needs to install on the server?

Some UPS, come with their own Config software but Windows has it builtin natively. Look in Control Panel under Power Options.

Hi,

I saw something in the control panel as you had suggested.

When I select Generic, Custom it prompts me for COM1 or COM2.

On the TRIPP LITE UPS - model SU1000XL - I can see that their is a RS232 port. I am not an IT guru - so I assume its the same as COM1 or COM2.

If I were to connect that cable from the UPS (i.e from RS232) to server - what would happend to the rest of the servers?


i.e since we have run out of ports on the UPS from which to connect from.


Is their a COM port card or adapter that we need to buy.

If you are running multiple servers from one UPS, you will have to communicate the shutdown to the others over the network.

I do it a simple way, I wrote a script that checks for the existence of a "flag" file in a folder on the secondary servers (not connected to the UPS). When the UPS shutdown event occurs, I have a script run on the machine connected to the UPS write the "flag" file into the folder(s) on the other machines. When they see the file, they erase it and shutdown.
