26 character WEP to 13
i have a linksys WRT300N router. i am trying to extend the network with an airport express from apple. i have everything set up properly except for the password. right now i have a 64 bit 10 character password. i have changed changed it to 128 bit and entered the pass phrase and it gave me a 26 character password.

The problem is the airport express only accepts 13 character passwords. how do i get this 13 character password

I read on a forum that this is not possible at this time. Whether a firmware upgrade can allow it in future is debatable, but the person who confirmed it recommended either sticking with 40 Bit (as these days it is not computationally much harder to crack than 40 bit - his opinion) or going with WPA. He was the only person I came across who even understood the problem correctly which sold me.

you read it's impossible to connect airport express or change a hex password to ascii. i believe that is what i need done.

the airport express will only accept 13 character passwords so there is obviously a way for it to work. i just need to know how to do that.

The trouble with using ascii passcodes for WEP is that some devices translate them differently. If your airport express cannot accept HEX keys your only option is to see if you can use an ascii passcode on the Linksys router and hope that all your devices will translate it the same.

What is stopping you from using WPA?
