Solved: AOL Wireless - cant connect
I decided to uninstall the AOL software from my laptop today because I usually use Firefox to browse the internet. After installing it I was unable to connect to the internet but the PC I am using now (connected to the router via ethernet) works fine. I have a Speedtouch 585 router supplied by AOL and my laptop has an intel centrino adaptor. The laptop still picks up the signal from the router and can connect to it but cant connect to the internet (if u understand what i mean) Tried AOL Live Help -useless as always. Any help would be appreciated.

If you are using AOL as an ISP, you probably need to run their software, which probably auto-connects at boot.

Have you run both parts of the AOL software. The first part loads the software and configures the router, and the second part loads and configures the wireless connection. I had the same problem, but after running the set up disk connecting PC to router via ethernet. Then disconecting the cable and running the "going wireless" part of the set up disk. Both started talking to each other with no problems at all.

OK, I'll give that a go. So I should connect the laptop to the router by ethernet and set it up and then try it wirelessly???

Yes. First connect the laptop to the modem via the ethernet cable, and run the disk. Run the first part "setting up your computer and modem router". This will set the configuration of the laptop and router to AOL. Remove the ethernet cable.
Then run the disk again (it should automatically take you to the selection screen again). select the "going wireless on your computer" option and follow the on screen instructions. Now both the laptop and router should talk happily to each other and you can surf happily and wirelessly. Your right about the "live help", it's about as much use as a chocolate teapot. So any more problems just come back here.
