Solved: Can't Share Files Using a Belkin N1 Wireless Connection
Hello. I have several computers networked to a Belkin N1 Mimo Wireless Router. I can share files fine with the computers connected via an ethernet cable to the router. The problem is with the wireless computers and laptops. I can access the internet perfectly when I'm connected to the router by wireless means. I cannot access the wireless computers and laptops, however, to share files with them. I'm not sure what the problem could be. I would appreciate some help. Thank you.

Sounds like a firewall issue, or possibly if they're Vista, those connections are labeled as private. Can you ping the wireless computers from the machine trying to connect?

All computers are running Windows XP. Here are the ping statistics I received from the computer trying to access the wireless one.

Pinging 192.168.2.5 with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 192.168.2.5:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

That's verification that it's almost definitely a firewall issue. Is this a new network (new router)?

I've had this router for a couple of months now. Since I don't use the wireless laptops all the time, I didn't really notice the network problem until recently.

I asked about the newness because when I replaced my router with a new Belkin, even though the LAN addresses stayed the same and I use no 3rd party firewall, I got all kinds of crazy "access denied"s and blocked pings and "can't find address"es at first. After I persisted with what I knew should work the problems all went away.

I'm not sure about the newness. I bought the router on Ebay used. Like I said it's a Belkin N1 Mimo Router. I'm not sure if that answers your question.

Thanks. I was just fishing for another possibility.

Concentrate on the firewall issue.

Some things you can try here.
  1. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
  2. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

If you've already done this, please disregard.

Hello. Restoring the router to the factory defaults fixed the problem. I'm not sure what was wrong but that worked. Thanks to everyone for all of their help.

It's amazing how many times that sorts out a stubborn router.
