Right click on it and repair
If that don't work: make sure everything is connected correctly
If that don't work: restart the modem
If that don't work: try to access the modem using its IP address (Most of the time its: 192.168.1.1)
If that don't work: try another lead
If that don't work: Come back here and Ill rattle my brain a bit more ^^

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2/SP3.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

Note: Type only the text in bold for the folwing commands.

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.

Let's see this after you reboot.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Have you tried a new cable and a new port on the router or switch? How about reloading the network drivers?

I figured the cable and the port on the router needed no further explanation.

Download the network drivers from the 3COM.com website for your NIC and run the installation.

You can just download it to the desktop, or perhaps create a folder in My Documents for downloads.
