Exclamation Epic Lag/Ping All of a Sudden
Earlier today everything was normal on my internet. Good speed, low ping on games (like always).

Then I unplugged my Linksys Cable Modem and moved it from on my desk to under it on the computer tower (for neatness sake).

Hooked everything up and went online. Noticed it was laggy and just... eh-ish. I did a speed test and my ping was 600+ to a very close by server. My download speed was 800 kbps! (Normally 5mb on the same server / speed test).

I shut down my computer. Restarted the modem with the button in the back, it booted up. Then I booted my computer.

Same deal.

It's really pissing me off now, as this makes no sense... Can't even play online games because my ping is 700+ in-game. (Normally < 100)

What could cause this? How can I fix it? I mean... all I did was move the modem from point A to point B, about 1 foot.

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

Thanks for that advice, but its a new day and I decided to run a speed test again. All's well again.
