Exclamation Solved: Please help with networking issue
Hello. I have been reading through the forums looking at similar problems, but haven't been able to find a solution. My wife's computer will connect everywhere but here at home. She's running winxp on a Gateway laptop. I've tried the ipconfig /release /renew and that didn't work.

Here is the ipconfig /all:

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>ipconfig /all

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : ERIN
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connecti
on
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-E0-B8-72-C2-5F
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>

I've also tried ipconfig /renew and I get this error message:

An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : The DHCP client has obtained an IP address that is already in use on the network. The local interface will be disabled until the DHCP client can obtain a new address.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Turn off the router and ALL connected computers, wired or wireless. Also, any other TCP/IP connected device, like an NAS or network connected printer should be turned off.

Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
Boot up the machines and other devices, one at a time.

If that doesn't do it, you may have a device that is configured for a static IP address conflicting with the DHCP server address range.

Ok, turned everything off and rebooted the router and turned everything back on one at a time. Her computer seemed to get a bit further this time, but still no internet access. I've tried both wireless and wired directly into the router. A little message pops up saying that she is conflicting with another machine on the network.

I ran the ipconfig /all again.

I have all the other devices on the router working fine, my computer which is wired, my laptop and PS3 which are running on wireless. They can all connect without a problem.

Follow JohnWill's advice again. This time, start up the problem computer after starting the router. See if you have access. Then start the next device and wait until that device is completely up. Check for conflicts. If there aren't any, start the next device and do the same thing.

One of the devices you start will either have a conflict with the IP address or the MAC address of the laptop. My guess is the PS3.

When you get an IP address conflict, the first device up gets the IP address but both get the conflict message. But note that the PS3 has no way of showing the conflict.

That worked. Thank you both so much. I was starting the problem pc as the last device. I don't know if I'm getting an IP conflict on the PS3 anymore, but everything is connected. I appreciate all the help.

Note that I said turn off ALL the equipment, I was really serious. That's the only way the reset gets the job done.
