Solved: Why do my router disappear?
Hi,
we have 2 Dell laptops with win xp that we connect to a wireless d-link router. From time to time my laptop don't find the router. When I refresh network list it finds a lot of the neighbours wlans but not our own SSID!

I try to restart, to disable and enable network and to restart the router, but it doesn't show up in the list.

My wifs laptop connects nicely and shows that the signal strength is brilliant!

What can be the reason??

Is the SSID broadcast enabled?

Well, I guess so since the wifes laptop can see it.. Yes, it is enabled in the DI-624 router.

Try changing the channel on the router, and/or the position of the machine that doesn't see the router.

Changed channel from 13 to 12 in the router. Same status.. I have moved the laptop several times - I even placed it one meter from the router.

I don't know why your network is sometimes detected and sometimes not.

That adapter's regional setting is correct, isn't it? I mean, it is set to use all 13 channels, right?

When changing channels be more daring--try a middle range one and a low one.

OK, I tried 11 (not that daring, maybe..) and I got it! Its in the list, and I connect easily! Seems that the problem is solved - for now.

Thank you very much!!

It is possible that the installed driver for that adapter is for North America, where we are allowed to use only channels 1 through 11.

Glad we were able to help, and you can mark this "Solved" using the button at the upper left of your first post.
