I just recently bought a linksys NC100 network card because the one on my motherboard failed so when I got home and installed it all of the right lights came on XP installed the drivers and i restarted my computer, looks like everything is great until I try to get online it connects but doesn't load the pages. It just sits there either transferring data or connecting I have no idea why it is doing this any ideas.

When you're connected, please post this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Well, you appear to have a connection to the modem. I think this is probably a firewall issue, let's try some simple tests here.

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

IPCONFIG

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING 206.190.60.37

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

It appears you have a serious issue somewhere in the link, you're dropping packets all over the place. You do have a connection, but it's not working well.

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

If you can't connect to the page at all, time to call your ISP. You have serious problems with the connection. This is almost surely either the modem, the wiring to the external connection, or the ISP network. Your ISP should be able to narrow it down, that's what you pay them for.

Very probably not.

The first two ping tests are basically talking to your personal network. You can talk to your network card (no packets lost) and you can talk from your computer to your router (no packets lost).

You lose 2 packets pinging an IP address (that's not good. That means when you know the address of a computer somewhere in the world you can't get a solid connection.)

You lost 3 packets pining an address using a DNS lookup (usually implies that there's a DNS server issue, but with the IP ping being bad there's something else going on).

If it was an issue with the card you're connecting to you'd see packet loss when you ping your default gateway (router)

Like folks are saying, talk to your ISP...

Right now all you know is communication between your computer and router are fine. Its everything later that's a problem. It COULD be a physical problem with the ISP's equipment or a network issue on their side.

Alternately it COULD be an issue with the WAN part of the router... But make it your ISP's problem to deal with for a few days.
