Internet is slow.
I dont get it. My computer is an E-machines Celeron and it is Windows Xp.
760 RAM.

My dad pays about 40 for internet at least, for sure maybe more. I have AT&T Yahoo, DSL.

So my speed thing under network connections
Local Area Connection:

100Mbs.

Now, when I download a file on firefox 3.0, it downloads at 10-20 kbs.

Thats crazy slow, it used to download faster I'm positive. I just noticed.

Please help. I dont think I have a virus, because the rest of the computer is running fine mostly.

What bandwidth are you supposed to be getting? What do you get with a test such as http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ ?

What is the brand and model of your modem? Of your router if you have one?

The 100mbit figure is your local network connection, not the ISP speed.

Run a speed test and post the results here.

What is the speed you're supposed to get from your ISP? That looks slow...

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

I'm going to ask one last time, then give up on this thread.

What is the speed that you have contracted for from the ISP?

He means, and I meant when I asked earlier, what "High Speed" DSL? That term may convey a specific bandwidth in your context, but to me it means nothing except "faster than dial-up."

If it means around 500 Kbps, then your tested speed could simply mean that you are far from the phone company's Central Office and getting degraded service because of inherent DSL limits.

If it means 1.5 Mbps or greater, then there is a definite problem to work on.
