Windows Firewall will not start

Angry Windows Firewall will not start
I keep getting a message that says: "Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall service?" I click "Yes." Then I get a message that "Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall MpsSvc service. i have vista as my operating system. i have spet over 8 hours with HP's tech support to no avail.

First, visit the Services settings, and check the properties of the firewall. It's probably not starting because some dependency isn't being satisfied.

You can also check the Event Log to see what it says about errors starting it.

All i can see is that the mpssvc file has a "Failed to read description. Error code: 15100". Any thoughts?

That doesn't mean anything to me. All the hits on Google seem to associate the error with a game, World of Warcraft.
