Cannot connect to internet after reformatting hard drive
I'm trying to help a relative fix their computer after getting several viruses on it. We ended up reformatting the hard drive. Everything appears to be operating except I cannot connect to the internet. At first the Local Area Connect was gone and all that appreared was the 1394 connection. I then purchased a new ethernet adapter and install it.

The installation appears to work but still no connect. Status indicates its sending packets, but not recieving any.

I could use some help trying to get this fixed, thanks!

If the computer has an internal Ethernet Adapter, make sure you install all the drivers. These can be found at the PC manufacturer's website. You want to install all the relevant drivers including Chipset, Video, Sound, Network, etc.

I'm not sure what chipset is? Also, I'm assuming I'll have to order the drivers since I cannot connect that computer to the network, or is there an easier way for me to get them.

The computer is an HP Pavillion and is running XP

Well, you can always copy them to a flash drive or other removable media and then install them on the computer without a connection.

You only need to do this for the Ethernet drive.
