Network Connect Issue
Hello. Wondering if anyone had some insight. I work for a company with about 15 clients some people use XP and most use OS X 10.3 - 10.5.

One of my co-workers try to connect to another computer to get some shared files and our router fails. The client he is trying to connect to is wireless, but some people are wired.

The 2 cpu's that are trying to connect are both wireless and both are on OS X 10.5.

Any ideas? Thanks

How exactly does the "router fail"? How do you get it going again?

Some things you can try here.
  1. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
  2. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Hey John thanks for your input. When the router fails we are unable to connect to the internet and also to a couple of hard drives set. It seems to only happen to the OS X 10.5 machines. Another note, which sucks, is this router was set up before I started working here. I don't have a password or the set up disks for it? Any suggestions? Thanks I really appreciate it.

This is still not clear. Suppose Machine A (running OSX) tries to access something on Machine B (also running OSX? Yes? No?)

At this point, who loses internet connectivity?

Machine A? Machine B? Both?

A third machine, Machine C, on the same LAN?

Everyone on the LAN?

Not
everyone on the LAN? Note: if someone on the LAN still has internet connectivity, then the router has not "failed".

Sorry about being vauge.

1. Correct machine A (OSX 10.5) tries to access something on Machine B (OS X 10.5).

2. Everyone in the office loses connectivity. Then I need to reset the router.

3. Yes machine C is on the same LAN. Everyone is on the LAN and everyone in the office loses connectivity.

No one is able to connect until I reset the router. Thank you

We need the exact make/model of the router.

Some things you can try here, because it sounds like the router is locking up.
  1. For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
  2. For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
  3. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
  4. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.
