Question wireless connection needs constant repair
I connect my home PC to the Internet via a wireless network connection, but I lose the connection every time the computer is turned off and/or is idle for more than a few minutes. I connect via a NetGear wireless adapter (Model WG111v3), and have Verizon FIOS has my ISP. I don't think it's the FIOS router, as I have another PC that connects via a (different) wireless adapter, and that connections is stable. I have checked my Wireless Zero Configuration, and it is on, and set to run automatically.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

If the computer is turned off, I would suspect that it would be hard for it to be connected!

Perhaps you can give a more concise description of the issue.

Thank you very much for your reply, and sense of humor! What has frustrated me is not that I lose the connection when I power off, but that when I power up the connection doesn't re-establish itself (as is the case with my other PC). Or, just as often, it will report being connected but not in fact be connected. In either case, I have to highlight the connection and click "repair" to re-establish connectivity. I also very often have to take this same step if the PC has simply been idle for more than a few minutes (but remains on). Happened just that way today.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

I'm guessing this may be due to power management and/or NIC drivers.

First step would be to download/install the latest drivers for the network adapter. Next, check in Device Manager and disable all power saving functions of the NIC.

Thanks a bunch. I've just updated ther driver, but I'm not sure how to go about disabling any power saving features of the NIC. Can you give me some clues/pointers on that step?
Thank you again for your time and help.

Whoops - think I just found the Power Management options for the NIC. So we'll see if this works. Thanks again.

Hi, I was just wondering if you had any luck??

I have had the exact same problem - Netgear WG111v3 connecting to a non-Netgear (Belkin in my case) access point, but never connects properly on computer startup. Requires constant "Repair" of network connections.

Firmware on access point is fully up to date. And most tellingly of all - 5 other computers can connect to the access point without any problems at all!!!

THanks

Things have been better since I changed the Power Management options for the NIC, as suggested.
