Solved: Wireless shows connected, but won't load IE
ISP = Local Telephone company DSL connection.
Modem = Zhone ADSL2 6212-13-200
Router = Belkin N Wireless F5D8233-4v3
Connection type = wired AND/OR wireless.
Encryption set to none firewall is turned off (for now)
Use AvG free edition for virus protection.

Computers:
#1 XP Home SP3, no wireless connection, connects wired
#2 Vista Home laptop, no wireless connection, connects wired
#3 XP Home SP3 Desktop, wireless usb dongle (works fine)
Internet Browser is IE on all.

Computer #1 & 2 have the problem:
Connect wired, through router or direct through modem. When I try to connect wirelessly, shows it's connected but IE won't load.
Spent two hours on phone with Belkin support, they determined it's an adatper problem becasue i kept getting "Hardware error" when I try to ping router. Downloaded driver update for Broadcom adapter.
Did not solve problem.

This is the ipconfig/all results with the computer connected to the internet on a wired connection:

It started acting up a couple of weeks ago. I checked with my ISP and everything is fine there, especially since I have connection on the desktip. I have tried re-setting the router many times. I know it's probably a very simple little thing but I just can't figure it out! Please let me know what else I should post and give me your ideas!
Thank you.

I'm having a similar problem, how are switching between wireless only / wired & wireless? If you restart with wired disconnected does the wireless work?

The second, but not the first, ipconfig /all shows Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) enabled! Strange, strange, strange.

Disable any ICS settings. And then run the following repairs, try to connect via wireless and show another ipconfig /all please.

(From a JohnWill post)

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2 or SP3.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

Ok, I checked for the ICS on all the connections and can't find any turned on. I then did the TCP/IP stack repair and got the following:

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner.YOUR-58BAFD6CDA>netsh int ip reset reset.log

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner.YOUR-58BAFD6CDA>netsh winsock reset catalog
Sucessfully reset the Winsock Catalog.
You must restart the machine in order to complete the reset.

When I restarted the computer, it connected wirelessly!! I was so excited, for about two minutes, when it died again. The funny thing is that it shows it's fully connected in the Network Connections area and on the taskbar.

This is the IPconfig/all with the internet connection on wired:

I noticed the Belkin shows connected so I unpluged the wire to check, but lost all connectivity again.

you can try to check your device manager. just to make sure that the wireless adapter driver is there....

Please do the repairs again and try to connect wireless. Capture (and show) the ipconfig /all as quickly as possible. If again you lose connection please show that ipconfig /all.

You can paste the ipconfig results into a text (Notepad) file to save until you regain internet access.

I tried everything all over tonight and still no connection wirelessly. The Device Manager lists the adapter without any problems and it is enabled. I reinstalled my router and went through the setup again, desktop connected via usb wireless, but this computer won't. will try the vista laptop connection next and will post ipconfig on it next. Thanks!

That shows an apparently good wireless connection to a (Belkin) router. Open a Command prompt and try these pings ...

ping 192.168.2.4 [or whatever the current IP is]
ping 192.168.2.1
ping 206.190.60.37
ping yahoo.com

Yay! I'm connected wirelessly! and it's holding now for five minutes. A record so far in the last two weeks.

I found a web page describing in detail how to download the Belkin firmware updates. Apparently I was choosing the wrong download and it made no difference to my connection. I installed the new one and instantly my connection was up! The funny thing is that our desktop was able to connect wirelessly through a USB dongle to the same router?

Now for the fun part, resetting all the firewalls and security, and updating everything to the other two computers. I really do hate computers (sometimes).

Thanks for all the help,
Good luck to all.
