Cool Keep getting kicked off the internet
I have verizon dsl with a verizon router and modem. This setup has worked great for 5 months now i keep getting kicked off and the ethernet link light flashes. i have replace the ethernet cable and the phone line and it is stil lthe same. If i turn the router off it will connect for ten minutes then kick me off again. And also there are 4 other computers connected through wifi. PLease let me knwo if you have any ideas??

a router and a modem or a router/modem combination?

if a router and modem, bypass the router and connect a machine directly to the modem. Is the problem fixed? If so its your router. check for a firmware update or consider getting it replaced.

if its a combo unit, check for a firmware upgrade and then talk to verizon about getting it replaced.

The other possibility is that they have a problem on their end which is killing your net access. either way, their tech support needs to be involved on this one.

I'd call verizon. They will have records of all this activity. They can look back and see what has been happening.

If it's a seperate modem and router, also try resetting the modem together with the router.

If you are losing the DSL connection, you most likely have one of the following issues.

Diagnosis
  1. Router/modem is defective.
  2. Interior wiring and/or filters improperly installed.
  3. ISP issues with wiring or other network infrastructure.

Resolution
  1. Get a replacement modem/router from the ISP.
  2. Correct your interior wiring and filter installations.
  3. Keep beating on the ISP until they fix it.

For the interior wiring, here's how I install DSL.

Purchase a DSL splitter and install it at the telco NID (Network Interface Device). This is the place the telephone lines come into your home wiring, usually either in the basement or outside near the other utilitiy connections. Run a direct line from the DSL port on the splitter directly to the DSL modem. Connect all of the other phone instruments to the telephone output of the DSL splitter. All of the DSL analog side wiring should be CAT3 or better twisted pair from the telco service entrance to the DSL/ADSL modem. You can use one of the twisted pairs in CAT5 cable if you have that on hand.

This is as good as it gets for DSL installations, and will usually solve in-house wiring issues.
