Hi Everyone:

I have a Dell desktop (running Windows XP) with a 802.11g USB 2.0 Wireless LAN Adapter. When I first moved into my apartment (before I set up my internet with Time Warner), my desktop was able to connect wirelessly to other networks in the neighborhood. Now that I have my own network, it's a different story.

My apartment has three laptops set up to our wireless network, using a G Wireless Belkin Router. We've never had any problems with connecting the laptops. My desktop can see our network but when I try to connect, I enter my network key, and then nothing happens. I don't get any error messages saying no connectivity or incorrect password, the box that says "waiting for network" just closes itself after a minute or two. My network card is enabled and it's set up to obtain IP addresses automatically. Any thoughts on what the problem might be?

This is driving me crazy, so I would appreciate any help or suggestions!

Can you connect with a wired connection to the router? Did you try disabling ALL encryption and MAC filtering on the router to see if you can connect that way?

This is most often mis-matched encryption keys or MAC addresses. If you're using WEP encryption, I'd recommend switching to WPA or WPA2.

Success! MAC filtering wasn't enabled, but my router's encryption was set to WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK. When I changed the router to either just WPA or WPA2, my desktop was fully connected. I should keep it at WPA2 since that's the better encryption, correct?
