I've been running on this laptop for some time now, and I've never had my internet run this slow. I'm using a Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter, and connecting to a Lexar router in the other room. I have full bars with my connection, but every now and then, I go from a Local & Internet connection to Local only. When that happens, I have to wait about 30 seconds for it to reconnect. Even when I'm connected perfectly, It's still taking a long time for it to connect to some websites.

On a ping for 209.85.171.100 (Google.com) with 32 bytes of data, the average miliseconds for 3 pings is 95ms, and an auto set TTL of 236.

I've run AVG 8.0 Full Scan, Windows Defender (vista) Full Scan, and Spybot S&D Full Scan and Immunization and found nothing. I've cleared cookies and have tried to re-access the websites, and it still took the same amount of time. I've restarted my router, repaired the connection, done EVERYTHING I could think of, and still nothing. My internet has never been this slow, and it's not like this on the other computer connected to the network. I got an error about something referring to the DNS of the connection. I know what this is, I just wouldn't know how to fix it.

If anyone has any suggestions, please reply.

I'd start by testing with a wired connection to the router to see if this is wireless issues or some other cause.


Other solutions include:

1. For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
2. For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
3. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
4. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.
5. Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

Mk, I just found a few things...

1.) (Just making sure you know. The other computer that is connected to this network (Windows XP (I'm on Vista)) is not having this problem, so I think it's the connection from my computer to the router.)

2.) In the Wireless Connection Status window under "Connection", it says:

IPv4 Connectivity: Internet
IPv6 Connectivity: Limited
Media State: Enabled

Then under Activity:

Bytes Sent: 1,463,752 (moving up slow)

I'm concerned about the IPv6 Connectivity being Limited, and am wondering if that's the case, or if it's something do to with the Activity.

Should I still take the steps in the post you replied with?

Go to Start, Settings, Network Connections. Right click on your active network connection and select Status.

Watch the sent and received packet counts for 30 seconds and tell us how many packets are sent and received in that 30 second window.

The first number is the difference between the start and end of the sent packets. And the second number is the difference between the start and end of the received. Is this bad?

You obviously have something like a P2P application running, you've downloaded a massive amount of data in the 30 second interval.

I want to see the counts when you're doing NOTHING, no browsers open, and no other applications updating.

Hehe, yea internet connection is nice now, one task I killed was this AOL thing (I don't even have AOL on my computer?!) and it now takes within a second to load a page.

Okay, I restarted my comp, and killed this Media Center Aggrigator thing only (the AOL thing didn't come up). Connection is a little more slow from a few sites only. Sometimes, when I start Firefox, some sites are slow, and other times, they're not, so honestly, I don't really know what's going on. All I can say is that the connection speed has improved from last time. (This Tech Support site is normally slow now, and I have to constantly stop the connection, and click again, or just wait until it goes through (which it normally never does) and click constantly until it works).

If you're still getting large changes in the packet count over 30 seconds while you're doing nothing on the Internet, you haven't tracked down the root cause.
