Unhappy Solved: My LAN connection to my other computer will not respond
I want to play a video game with my friend which happens to be on my other computer. so i plugged in the Ethernet cable into both our computers. It worked fine for a couple weeks. I recently had to wipe my computers memory becuase of some problems. (My OS is windows XP home edition with the latest updates.)

Ever since the LAN between the two has never worked. It just says limited or no connectivity in the internet connections window. I try repair but it just gets stuck on the first item. It tired turning of BitDefender and then trying the game on LAN but it still won't function. I am sure someone else must have had this problem before but i have found this problem very difficult to find anywhere else.

Thank you in advance and i would be happy to supply you with any extra information that you might need.

can you post an ipconfig/all from both PCs
make which one is the rebuilt one

ipconfig /all

TWO Methods to do that - some people have problems with ONE----

ONE ---------------------------------
start
run
cmd
ipconfig /all

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

TWO -----------------------------------------------

Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

Oh, I am sorry. I am connected to the internet to be able to replay to the messages and it did not occur to me that i should plug the LAN cable back in, in order to collect the data needed. My Ethernet cable was connected to a router at the time, and I shall redo the test.

Do you have a broadband router? Why are you not simply plugging both cables into the router? This will accomplish the same thing, only configuration will be a lot easier.

So if both computers are connected into the same router, they are essentially connected together into a LAN network?

if so, can i just play any game right now using the LAN option just by having both computers plugged into the same router?

thanks in advance!

Yep, it's by far easier than screwing around with two interfaces and linking them directly. They'll also both have Internet connectivity, a useful byproduct of being directly connected to the router.
