Unhappy Programs can't update when using WIFI or LAN
Hi,

I am using a Dell XPS m1330 with vista home premium, and I generally connect to the net using WIFI.
I was having a problem updating my mcafee antivir for a while because it wasn't connecting to the internet. I got on to customer care and they suggested I uninstall it and then reinstall it. I downloaded the installer to try to reinstall it but it was unable to connect to the internet. I gave up on this after a while spent fiddling with firewalls etc. I then tried to install WoW but the installer couldn't connect either.

I tried connecting on four different wireless networks and through a LAN cable but it made no difference. Firefox and Internet explorer have no problem connecting to the internet, and I have had no problem with direct downloads of pdf files etc. I also have no problem downloading files using bittorrent or limewire. I googled the problem and kept coming up with firewall problems. I tried everything I found and none of it helped.

Recently I was in college and logged on to the VPN there. On a whim I tried to use the mcafee installer and it worked and so did the WoW installer. This really confused me.
The problem that I have now is that I cant update mcafee without going back to the university and my Java is out of date and I can't update it either.

The only thing I can think of that would have caused it was a guy where I work who set up a virtual desktop for me and changed some of my network settings...

Any help would be appreciated, I have no idea what this guy did,

Thanks
MrsB

Uninstall the VPN client and see if that changes things.
