Connecting to "new" old server for first time
I recently picked up a Nitix server thinking I could use it as a free and nicer NAS, i.e. a personal file server. Note: On the back of it there are 2 serial connections and 2 ethernet ports. I also have what is 'believed' to be a correct admin username and pwd.

I brought it home, plugged it into my ethernet router and other computer and fired it up. The computer that I was going to use to log in to it and set it up was connected to the internet via wireless so when it's ethernet connection was dished out an IP address I could only assume that it was from the server.

I tried to connect to the server using ssh, rlogin and telnet only to be denied access by all 3.

I would like to connect to this thing somehow... any options I'm missing besides "you have a bad user/pwd" or buying a videocard (there is an open PCI slot if I need it)?

The scope of issues here is WAY beyond what we could possibly fix in this forum! You don't know nearly enough about the server and what's running to even guess at a solution!

Admittitly, there was quite a lot of information that I have that was left out of the post. I don't need to 'fix' the machine so much as see what it is doing through a GUI of some sort. If I can connect to it a simple "export DISPLAY=IP:0" command should allow me to get said GUI.

Anyway, it used to run as a mail, file and web server for a small business so I know the domain name that it once used. It uses Apache for the web server end (which I will turn off once I can). It uses a program called ExchangeIt! for the mail server. The file server is Windows File Server.

According to the Nitix knowlegebase to connect remotely ssh should be used, but as I said, this was tried using what is highly believed to be a correct user name and server name. If anything the knowledgebase claims that if I can get in with a non-admin user I can super user into accessing admin privaleges.

I recalled rsh was once used for remote services last night but again denied access.

I can't seem to think of a thing I'm missing and would prefer if I didn't have to spend money on a video card to hook it up to a monitor as this is just a project for giggles.
