Exclamation Hardlined Server with No Internet Connection
I am running a server (Dell PowerEdge SC1430, Windows Server 2003) that is hard lined (CAT5) over a small business network and I have lost internet service to this server. There is another workstation that is also hard lined that receives internet traffic just fine. I can access the router on the server just fine to change settings and whatever else, but I cannot seem to figure out what the problem is.

So far, I have trying repairing the connection, I have set it up for automatic and static ip's, I've cleared the ARP cache, and I've renewed the DHCP. Have I left anything out? Help would be uber appreciated. Thank you.

Does the router have any filter settings that may be blocking or permitting which computers (ID'ed by MAC address maybe) can or can not access the Internet?

If you run a TRACERT on the server to a public IP address (not URL) on the Internet does it stop at the router or go through OK?

The router has no filter on it. And if I run a TRACERT it makes it through the router (192.168.1.1) just fine but does not complete the command.

Well, it sounds like you are making it into the router but not getting through to the next router down the line. What do the first few hops look like if you run TRACERT on the computer that can access the Internet?

The first few hops return just an IP address of the next host, wish no actual resolved host name. Making it it through the first 8-10 hops and then times out. When I run the same TRACERT on the other workstation it actually finishes and returns all host names.

I am not in the office so I cannot display an actual copy of the transmission.

Do both systems have the same DNS settings? Either a fixed IP address or get it from the router?

If I remember right, the router and workstation are both automatic but the server is set to static. Could this be an issue?

Quick test. Launch the web browser on the server and try going to the Tech Support Guy site at http://www.techguy.org . If it errors out instead of loading the page, try going to http://209.183.226.152 (The reverse DNS lookup of www.techguy.org). If that seems to load the page correctly, then I would have to say you have a DNS settings issue on the server. However, I am not too familiar with any Windows server software don't know how to fix it without possibly breaking something else.

EDIT: I may have picked a bad day to suggest this test. I am having on again, off again problems connecting to the TSG site at the moment.
