Hey all,

new to the board and am pleased to have found such a great resource. My issue is the following: I'm using a Motorola SBG900 Cable Modem, which also includes an integrated wireless router. I've always had my share of issues with the wireless networking though (signal drops, overloading connections and such), so I decided to pick up a trusty old Linksys WRT54GL on Ebay and install DDR-WRT on it, planning to let it handle the networking and wireless part instead.

The setup now works just fine; Wireless is disabled on the Motorola cable modem and handled via the Linksys router. The only issue I'm having is Port Forwarding; I assume that the Motorola modem uses its own Port Forwarding system, which in itself uses a different routing table than the one used in the router (and thus sees the Linksys router as its only client).

What I'm trying to do now is disable the address table allocation in the cable modem and have that job handled by the Linksys router alone, effectively bypassing the router part of the modem entirely. If anyone out there has experience with Motorola modem / router combos, there an easy way to set this up? If not, general pointers would probably help to push me in the right direction.

figured it out myself.
Here's what you do:

Go into the Motorola setup interface (mine was at 192.168.0.1)

--> Gateway
----> LAN tab, Disable NAT

... then reboot both the router and the modem. This will automatically pass the connection through the modem to the Linksys router, disabling all address allocations and letting you set ports from the Linksys config directly.
