Laptop won't recognise its own wireless card
I have an Everex Stepnote XT5000T laptop. It has its own internal wireless card that has given me no trouble for a year. Then, one day, I wake up and I cannot access the internet on my laptop. I think I have narrowed down the problem to the card itself. I know the internet is ok because I am using it to write this, and I know there is something specifically wrong with my laptop because I live in an appartment complex where I should pick up at least 12 different signals, and I cant even find the window that shows all of the available wireless connections. I reformated my computer, and when i try to install the drivers for wlan from Everex's website, i get the pop up error: "The files you wish to remove will not be removed as the corrosponding card is not inserted." This is not a removable wireless card, it is the card that came installed in the laptop.

Any thoughts?

If you haven't already done so, download and install the latest chipset drivers before trying the networking drivers.

Does the wireless adapter show in Device Manager? Please tell us of any Device Manager warnings or errors or Unknown or Other devices.

If at this point you haven't seen any possible evidence of the wireless check in the BIOS (Setup) to see if it somehow got disabled there.

I'm only marginally sure i am doing all of this correctly. I installed a driver that i got from http://www.everexstore.com/everex/su...0t/xt5300t.php entitled "chipset drivers set" before i did anything else.

I am looking at the device manager, and I don't exactly know what my card would be called or where i would find it. When i try to install the "Wireless lan" driver, it pulls up an nvidia splash, and i didn't know if nvidia had anything to do with wireless stuff. I see no unknowns or errors besides the error i provided you. I think the wireless card might be "1394 Net Adaptor" under "network adaptors" but i am not sure.

I looked in the bios, but this bios screen seems awfully limited in what it controls, relative to the few other bios screens i have seen. It had no option relating to this subject at all.

The Navidia GO 7600 is your graphics card.
1394 is firewire. ave read on some sites this can be disabled.
From what I have been able to find, the wireless is built in as part of motherboard and uses RealTek Network drivers.
For some reason their forums are down.

With no errors/warnings in Device Manager your wireless adapter should be listed under Network Adapters; I don't recall one that didn't have "wireless" or "WLAN" in its name.

Sounds like your adapter is probably dead. With the laptop unplugged and the battery removed carefully remove the card (if it is a mini PCI) and reinsert it just in case it got loose.
