Exclamation Wireless Network Connection is stuck on "Acquiring Network Connection"
Hi,

My laptop's operating system is WINDOWS xp SP 2. Recently the windows automatic update ran on my laptop and the operating system was updated to SP 3.Since then, i am unable to connect to my wireless network. The connection just gets stuck on the "Acquiring Network Connection".
I dont know if the windows update has caused this, but that is the only change tht i have happened to my laptop lately.

I have tried the following.

1. Changed the SSID of the wireless profile i have, in the router
2. Changed the Password (WPA - PSK)
3. repaired the wireless network connection and tried to connect but in vain
4. But when i disabled the security option in the router, i am able to connect to my wireless network. The issue is only when the security option is set.I am using WPA.

Other threads in connections with this issues dont seem to do the job.

My wireless driver is Improcomm ipn 2220.

Any help is appreciated!

what wireless amanger are you using to connect to wireless connection? (windows or third party wireless manager)
what is the setting of that profile in your wireless connection manager. sometime, your wireless default to open or PSK2 authincation mode. make sure it matchs whatever you have configured your router

Im using the default windows wireless manager. Through this, I see a window with a list of wireless network. I simply click the one that belongs to me, it asks for the password, i enter it and then it says connecting following which it get stuck on "Acquiring Network Connections".

If i disable the security option in the router, i can connect without any problems.

I tried disabling\restarting the wireless zero configuration, but the problem persists.

I tried reseting the wireless router too, changing the SSID, pass key, nothing . I think after the SP 3 installation this issue has come up. It this linked?

you need to go to the option for that connection, & change the authincation method to match your router. sometimes, windows wireless managemnet tool keeps the default which is open.

& not, it's not SP3 installation, it might have reseted your connection settings but it would cause the device not to work

I went to the association tab in the wireless option. Set the security to WPA-PSK from the drop down. Clicked OK.This matches the security settings of the router. No luck. its still stuck on acquiring network connections.

Any other options?

Remove all the stored wireless profiles and search for a new wireless network. Make SURE you use the correct encryption key. Do not fool with the Associations tab, WZC will figure out the encryption type.
