Solved: Router to Internal HDD
Is it possible to connect my Linksys WRT600N gigabit w/ external usb storage link to my Internal HDDs? It would be nice to have them over FTP.

I don't understand the question.

You can obviously FTP from any disk you can access from the machine with the FTP server.

Maybe you could be clearer about what you're doing?

I would like to access the HDD through my router as an FTP server. Tools for that came with the router's software and I can only access external HDD plugged in to my USB storage port. I wanted to know if I could get my internal HDD over the FTP server.

It appears that the router includes an FTP server, so this should be pretty simple: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/conte.../30208/96/1/3/

Once in that configuration tool, under "Storage/FTP" tabs, after selecting the appropriate radial buttons, and clicking on "Specify Which Partitions to Access" I get a window with the following text boxes:

Display Name:________________
Partition:XXXXXXXXXXX

Location:XXXXXXXXXXX
New Folder:_________________

(X's are grayed out areas)

Not sure what to do here and if those areas should be grayed out. Screenshots attached

Type a valid name into the Display Name box to start. I suggest reading the manual on configuring the FTP capability. Is the attached disk formatted? Note that it may have to be formatted by the router, since I suspect that NTFS may not be supported for that disk. I'm guessing that the Linux kernel used will require either EXT3 or FAT32 partitions.

I am confused when you say "attached disk". I have no disk in the USB expansion slot just the internal disks in my PC. The 2 are both NTFS.

I guess I misread your first statement, you said.

I read into that you had an attached USB drive on the router's USB port.

For your situation, you just need a standard FTP server on your machine, I like FileZilla for this task. The other thing you'll have to do is forward port 21 in the router to your computer to allow the outside world to connect to the FTP server.

I downloaded filezilla, but I'm having problems understanding it. FTP is new to me. What do I use as Server Address, Port, and Administration Password? Whenever I try anything, I get "Error, Could Not Connect to Server".
